The choices we make create the life we lead.
Choices are an inherent part of life. The decision we make when given a choice will lead us down the path we have chosen. In almost every part of our modern society there is choice. Too much choice sometimes. In most situations you are not forced to make any particular decision. You are the captain of your own ship, so to speak.
One day, when I was at my lowest, I had just been paid and I went straight to the pub after work. I ended up spending somewhere in the region of £500. Money we couldn't afford to spend and I spent it drinking and gambling.
Now that was my decision. I had the choice to go home and enjoy the company of my family and treat them to something nice, but I didn't. It makes me sad now to think of it like that, and how I wish I could take those days back.
But what had led me to that debased point in my life?
Looking back at it, my view is that I kept making bad decision after bad decision. The choices were always there, but I was choosing wrong.
One decision can change your life for better or worse. Not all decisions are big decisions and not all seem important to us at the time.
We all make bad decisions from time to time, but we need to have the self-awareness to tap ourselves on the shoulder and say:
'Are you sure this is the right thing for you and your family?'
